Even as the fear of artificial intelligence dominated the headlines, tech entrepreneurs Romesh Wadhwani and Sunil Wadhwani founded the Wadhwani Institute for Artificial Intelligence (Wadhwani AI) with the mission of harnessing AI for social good.

On February 18, 2018, the brothers' mission took flight as Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi inaugurated Wadhwani AI in the presence of Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis.

The independent, nonprofit research institute's work will focus on creating AI-based solutions in domains such as health, agriculture, education, and infrastructure.
