We are excited to announce Wadhwani AI, an independent nonprofit research institute with the mission of AI for social good. Founded by tech entrepreneurs Romesh and Sunil Wadhwani, this initiative hopes to bring the immense promise of AI to bear upon large-scale social problems. We are grateful to the Government for Maharashtra and the University of Mumbai for providing us a verdant space in the heart of Mumbai. The Wadhwani Institute for Artificial Intelligence will:
- Develop solutions in agriculture, health, education, financial inclusion, language, and infrastructure.
- Be a hub for AI scientists from top global institutions to collaborate with social-sector organizations.
- Explore questions of ethics and guidelines for AI in development.
I am fortunate to have a stellar early team comprising award-winning scientists and innovators from the IITs, Stanford, Cornell, and USC.
I would like to invite you to join a select of group of experts on Feb 17th, 2018 at IIT Bombay, for an AI-for-Social-Good Explorations Summit. At the summit, we are bringing together AI researchers from top global institutions, social-sector leaders, and government officials. We will break into groups of eight to engage in a facilitated cross-disciplinary exploration in AI for social good. We will use structured tools to identify good problems for the larger community to engage with. We also hope to enable discovery of collaboration opportunities. Your expertise will greatly benefit the community and discourse.
If you are unable to join, please do pass this invite to anyone else in your organization who you think is suitable to engage in a dialogue at this level. We are happy to cover expenses of your stay in Mumbai, and airfare for postdocs and PhD scholars, and anyone else who desires support.
It is also my honour to invite you, on behalf of Romesh and Sunil Wadhwani, to the inauguration of the institute on 18th Feb, 2018 in Mumbai. The Honourable Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, has been invited to dedicate the institute to the nation. The Honourable Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Shri Devendra Fadnavis, will inaugurate the institute. The CEO of NITI Aayog, Govt. of India, Shri Amitabh Kant, will deliver the inaugural keynote address. Global AI experts will deliver keynotes, and participate in panel discussions.
Please join us and leaders from AI research, the social sector, startups and corporates, and government, for the inauguration, symposium, and banquet. We seek your support, and look forward to your RSVP.
